1 April 1897 – 30 September 1924
Philip was born in 1897 in Chicago and fought in World War I. Unfortunately, Philip had tuberculosis and was suffering from an acute case even while serving. After he returned to civilian life, he married Martha Schmidt, probably around 1923, and together they had one child, Marcella, who was born 20 April 1924.
Due to his worsening health, he was admitted to the Soldiers’ Home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on 19 July of that same year, and even more tragically, he would never leave alive. He died just two months later when his daughter was only 5 months old.
Martha never remarried and raised their daughter with the help of her widowed father Julius. They lived together for the rest of his life, and after his death in 1940, Martha lived with Marcella and her family for the rest of her life. She died in 1968 and was buried between her parents and her husband.
